POBAW is a very quick and easy read. Charlie, the main character, writes journal entries about his life as an incoming freshman to a new high school. He has no friends, because the only friend he had, committed suicide the summer before(depressing)! You could say he's a socially awkward, quiet, shy kid, that doesn't really have a supportive family. He quickly meets Sam and Patrick, quirky seniors, that soon befriend him. He learns to grow, communicate, and participate through them. He finds out about love, homosexuality, dating, literature, and new experiences, all of which he writes about.

It goes way deeper than just awkward high school dances, football games, and Pre-AP literature class. Towards the end of the school year, Sam, Patrick and all of the other friends he has made, are leaving for college. Depression overcomes him, and he quickly funnels into a downward spiral. A big secret is revealed, something that he has been struggling with his whole life....(sooo apparently I read over that very important part of the book, which was crucial to the story, but we saw the movie last night and everything started to make a lot more sense, ooops!)

Anyways, it was a book that shared growth, troubles of high school, and real life issues that kids go through. In my opinion, I thought it was a really great book, and I would highly recommend it. Either read the book, or see the movie. I was VERY impressed with how close the movie matched the book. The actors that played Charlie and Patrick were spot on. The movie would be a great option if you're not much of a reader.
The trailer is actually really sweet looking, but in actuality the book/movie is really dark and hard to watch at times and definitely a tear jerker, so be prepared!
I don't even know where to begin with this book. It seriously was all over the place, but in a good way. I'm not too sure how this review will read, but just trust me, it's definitely worth your time! I could not put it down!
It's read like diary entries and short chapters that go back and forth between the characters, Amy and Nick. They are a happily married couple, living in New York, working in journalism. Throughout their five years of marriage, things have not gone as planned. One year they're living in New York, working their dream jobs, the next they're jobless, moving to Nick's home town to help care for his parents. By the fifth year of marriage they are financially unstable, bitter about their marriage, and are showing their "true" colors.
You find out on their fifth anniversary that Amy goes missing.
and we all know from watching LMN that the husband is always the one to blame...Right?
Maybe that's the case in this story, maybe not. I'll let you find out for yourself! I will say it's not the typical murder mystery you might be imagining.
It's a psychological masterpiece where every little detail matters. This author had me hating one character one minute, then feeling sorry for them the next. I truly did not know where this story was going. I was blindsided with the first plot twist and was hooked until the end.

In my opinion, I didn't like how the story ended. Not saying it's a waste of time or anything, just think it got wrapped up too quickly. I like my version better :)

I just finished Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children and I discussed it with my book club last night. I wrote up a little book review for anyone that may be interested in reading it. It was like nothing else I've read before. I also found out that it is going to be a trilogy. Any book made into a trilogy is bound to be a good one!
It's narrated by Jacob, a simple boy, living a very simple life. He has no friends with the exception of his crazy grandpa. His grandpa tells him stories of orphanage "peculiar" children with special powers, like levitation, holding fire, etc. He even shows him vintage pictures to prove it.
When his grandfather is killed suddenly, Jacob travels to this unbelievable island his grandpa had always talked out to find out whether he's truly crazy or telling the truth. He goes through wild adventures and travels back in time to find the real Miss Peregrine and all the peculiar children for himself. He discovers untold secrets about this old house, and what his grandpa had never told him.... He finds out that he might not be so simple after all.
It's rumored that Miss P might be made into a movie signed by the one and only Tim Burton. Heck yes! Now, THAT would be awesome!

This weekend was my first weekend off and I took full advantage of it.
I started it off by joining my maid of honor, Bailey and our moms and some others for a quick happy hour and headed straight over to Chuy's for a friends Birthday dinner. Ah, mexican food, margaritas, and good friends...does it get much better than that?! It was great! Also, Scott was out of town for the night so I got the whole bed to myself, which meant sleeping like an x! My favorite.

Saturday morning, I woke up late, like 8 o'clock and laid in bed reading allll morning long! It was wonderful! I'm trying to finish up Fifty Shades before I start my new book, Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, but I don't think it's going to happen. I'm a little over half way through with the second one and to be honest I just want to be done with it. It's kinda dragging for me. Anyone feel the same way? Also has anyone read Miss P?
It sounds pretty spooky....
I finished my Saturday with a day full of shopping and a friends pot luck. We didn't stay long, because Scott and I both started feeling pretty bad, but it was a good time :)
Sunday Scott and I ventured out to HEB for our weekly grocery trip and almost got completely creamed on the way there. It was the closest I've come to getting in a car wreck and it scared the crap out of me. A lady ran a red light and we almost t-boned her. If Scott wasn't with me, I definitely would have gotten in my first wreck. :( Very scary to think about. God was looking out for us for sure.
We came home and got some chores done and relaxed! The storm yesterday was the perfect ending to a lazy Sunday. North Austin got a record amount of rain, 4.57 inches, crazy!

Here's to another week workin for the man... I'm loving the new job and I'm finally getting a routine down. I'm pretty excited for my next weekend off. We're going to be busy! I'm hoping to post more this coming week!
After about two hours of catching up on blogs, I'm finally able to write one of my own. I actually have been missing this world while I was on vacation, but I'm back and ready for action. OH, and a very unfortunate event happened, my computer screen won't turn on. Anyone else have that problem?? For the time being, Scott is lending me his MacBook, which is taking a lot of getting used to.
I want to tell you all about my trip! If you didn't know, Scott and I went out for a mini vacation over the weekend to New Mexico. We stayed in between Albuquerque and Santa Fe... I think. We really were in the middle of no where, which is the best part about it!
The view out there was incredible!
We spent a lot of our time out by the pool reading and getting too much sun. I brought home a sunburn and a burnt scalp, ouch! My darn permipart! There were three pools there, one for relaxing, a family pool that included a slide that we definitely went down 10 times, and a baby pool. If you can guess, we didn't spend anytime at the baby pool.
While we were in New Mexico, we ate sooo much food! But, we were on vacation. That's a valid excuse, right?! Sadly, I didn't get any pictures of the delicious food, but we ate REALLY good. From breakfast buffets, to steak dinners. I was pretty much done with eating towards the end of the trip and stuck with salads.
We were also were able to take a hike up Sandia Mountain. Boy, was I in for a surprise. OK, my definition of hiking is walking on a flat trail through some trees. Scott's idea of hiking is much different then mine which I soon found out.
We were just starting, and I could feel the sun starting to warm up. It was around 9:30 and I was feeling good. Fortunately, weather in NM is better than in Texas. You can actually sweat there and it evaporates because there is like zero humidity. It's GREAT! The temperature was still hot, and you become out of breath quickly especially when you're hiking at an elevation your not used to...
But the view was worth it!!!

So, I was not prepared for this, but I'm so glad we went. It was such a beautiful view and such an accomplishment to see how far we went. I was not expecting the trail to be as steep as it was. We ran into a lot of people on the trail that morning, it was a popular spot. Oh and btw, we hiked about 5.5 miles, not 10 ;)
And for the results....

The hike down took half the time and we were basically running down. There were a few cuss words said, and some slip scares, but we managed to make it down with out hurting ourselves or falling down.
I was sore for three days after the hike, it really worked me. My soreness made me feel less guilty about eating my body weight in breakfast that morning ;)
Look at Scott's cute parents. We got to spend a lot of time with them, they are a HOOT!!! So much fun! I'm very blessed to be a part of their family. That night we wandered around the resort, ventured off to hopefully crash a wedding,(the guys didn't let us), then headed home to pass out. (that was the same day we hiked, I was pooped!)
Our last night we spent with Milo's business partner and his family and traveled to Santa Fe for dinner. Wow, that city was amazing. It has so much character and scenery. I really enjoyed myself there, especially the company!! We eventually made it back to the resort to prepare for our departure the next morning.
This vacation was just what I needed! So much love, good times and relaxation!
